Welcome to F2K!
The new version of F2K returns to the basics: Work and Play.
Work
This is misleading. We always try to have fun when we work. After all, like most writers, we love our work. A better name might be "This is where we work towards our goals, meet new friends, develop our crafts, get feedback on our writing, and have fun doing it." This is a little too long for a navigation link, so we've shortened it to "Work" -- it rolls off the tongue easier. When you click on "Work" in the from the navigation link (located in the upper-right corner, it brings you to the forums and classrooms. Here, you can ask for help in the the Support Forums, see what's going on in F2K Cafe, find weekly lessons, and participate in your classroom. This is the only section of the site you will need to know.
-- Support Forums: Before asking questions, skim through the FAQS in the Support Forum. You may find the answers you need immediately. If you don't find your answers, feel free to post your question. Mentors monitor the forums, and do their best to answer all questions quickly. All our Mentors are experienced volunteers from Writers' Village University, and are happy to help.
-- F2K Café: This Forum is for announcements, general discussions, introductions, announcements, and all the things that writers might discuss in a café on a nice night--conversation is always casual and friendly. This is open to all students, from all classrooms. Students should check the cafe often for important announcements.
-- Lessons: Every Wednesday, a new lesson is posted. This will include reading material and weekly writing assignments. Writing assignments should be posted in your classrooms by the following Tuesday, though we recommend posting sooner. This allows time for exchanging feedback with fellow students.
-- Classrooms: This is where all the action is. Each week, in addition to lessons, you'll receive tips and suggestions from Mentors. This is where you post your writing assignments by creating a "New Topic" in your classroom, and "Reply" to other student's assignments with your comments. Each week, a new section of the classroom is added for the current lesson. This helps prevent confusion in busy classrooms. The new sub-sections will be clearly marked like this: Post Week Two Lessons Here.
Play
Play brings you to the Social part of F2K Social. Here you can post photos, videos, make friends, and share things of interest to your fellow writers. Though this part of the site is optional for students, it's fun, and a good way to meet and interact with other writers. Several Groups will be available for extracurricular activities during and after the course is over. The Groups remain open so students have an easy way can stay in touch year-round.
Most writers are turned off by SPAM and self-promotional messages with links to other sites. This is not the place for this type of activity, and messages like this are forbidden. We take pride on the friendly nature we've maintained over the years, and have zero tolerance for inflammatory posts. We respect all religions, political views, lifestyles and cultures, and ask that all students do likewise while at F2K. This is an educational site, and not the place for rants and raves. There are forums available elsewhere for this.
We do everything in our power to make F2K an enjoyable experience for all. Since 1995, we've had the pleasure of working with many thousands of students. Many have found success on both personal and professional levels. Our joy is to help you reach your goals, and have fun along the way.
What is F2K?
F2K: Fiction Writing for the New Millennium
F2K is a free online creative writing course sponsored by Writers' Village University and staffed by volunteer Mentors.
The course includes seven one-week fiction writing lessons and is designed for beginning writers; however, intermediate and advanced writers are encouraged to take the course as a refresher or to socialize with and encourage beginning writers. Thousands of writers have discovered that F2K is a great way to break writers block.
