WRITERS' VILLAGE IS PROUD TO INTRODUCE
YOU TO:
N'omi Rose
USA
nomi@wvu.org
My name is N'omi. I am a poet, a writer, a fabric artist,
and Mom to my two Welsh Corgi dogs!
My education is as long and varied as colours in a palette, ranging from
learning to read before kindergarten, to taking a post-doctoral course in
Homiletics from Cambridge University when I was 27 years of age. While
that was not the end of my education, it was the highest course I ever
succeeded in taking so out of order. I am always a student, always
learning from reading, formal course work, as well as self-studies. In
grade school, I used to set myself a research task and follow it through
until I was satisfied with the answer! I was permitted to use the adult
side as well, although under the protective eyes of the Librarian who took
delight in my fervor. I have always hungered to learn about how things
worked, and why! Oh, what I could have done with a computer back then!
I first learned to read from a story written about a Queen, all done up in
alphabetical order on those big sheets of brown writing paper with double
lines one used in younger grade school. Oh, how I would dearly love to
find that story again! Anyhow, it had a lyrical quality that matched with
the music my mother would sing, as well as in the radio opera broadcasts I
listened to every Saturday. I am quite sure this is what started me in the
world of poetry. My definition of poetry is the art of communicating
combinations of language written in such a way that uses only the
essential words, and no more. That is what I have always loved about
poetry. The way I did not have to explain *everything*! Just enough to
give the picture I see when I write!
My favorite poets are; Susanne Batzdorff, Martha Courtot, Tracy Chapman
and whomever I am reading at the time! My favorite writers are Lois Bujold,
Jennifer Roberson, Jacki Kay, Susan Mathews, just to name a few!
I have been a member of WVU since September 1999, after taking the free
course, then called F99, in the Andre Norton room with Margaret I. Carr as
my mentor. I am a member of Consistents, Lambda and Word Weavers study
groups.
I look forward to meeting you around the campus of Writers' Village
University.
